New Beginnings
Finding a Forever Home
Pugs are surrendered to PRoNE for many reasons--from financial hardship and foreclosures to owners who don't understand their special needs. These lovely dogs go on to make great companions for those who can look beyond having a "second-hand dog".
Whether a puppy or a senior, rescued pugs continually show their new families how grateful they are for the love and attention they receive. Check out their stories.
Ike (formerly Little Spike) is an amazing older gentleman who was surrendered to PRoNE in 2008 due to health issues. He arrived in a chauffeur-driven limousine and has made it clear that he continues to have the same high expectations for his new life. And it is a wonderful life now, being the only furry child of a veterinarian dad and a working-from-home mom, with long daily walks and plenty of visitors.
"Hi my name is Brat and I am 3 years old. My foster parents say I’m not a Brat but an angel. I was born with a high liver enzymes and a seizure disorder.
My first family was foreclosed upon and they had to give me up to rescue because their new landlord would not allow dogs.
I just love to play and be a goof. I like to go for walks. At night I like to sleep right by your side all night long. During the day while my foster parents work I hang out in the chair with country music on. I don’t mind being around kids of all ages."
On Sunday, June 11, 2008 Brat found his forever home with the Dinsmore family in Maine. Congratulations go out to Brat, the Dinsmore family, and Brat's foster home in New Hampshire!
"Hi, my name is Spike. My sister Maggie and I are really excited to tell you about our journey through PRoNE and how grateful we are to be in our forever home.
We remember being loved at some point before passing through the hands of people who thought we were an inconvenience (really, we're great dogs, mommy tells us so all the time!). We had no soft beds (or leashes or collars so you know we weren't walked either) and were confined to the kitchen. It made us very sad.
We want to offer our eternal love and thanks to PRoNE volunteers Kim and Mike who
were horrified to see us offered for free on Craiglist and rushed to welcome us into their
home with their pugs Bart and Sammy. They refused to split us up and loved us and
cared for us as if we were their own for the four months it took our new mommy to buy
a house just for us. Life is really good now, Maggie and I go to the dog park every
weekend and we get to play with Bart and Sammy and our cousin Fidget."
Buster, a strapping young pug from CT was adopted by Sharon and Rick in February 2009. He will be making his new home in Maine with a very loving, huge Italian family who are ALL pug-crazy.
